Gem quality Sapphire is known for its clear deep blue whilst in reality, it appears in many colours, although still generally thought of as being blue. (Red Sapphire is known as Ruby). Lower grades are more opaque and both Rubies and Sapphires can be found in barrel-shaped hexagons.
