It encourages speaking up, if you find it difficult, and helps whatever is said to be expressed kindly. It is a perfect stone for Mercury retrograde, when communication can be difficult. Its pale blue banding brings a cooling, nurturing and comforting energy and helps to reveal hidden messages.

Placing it anywhere on the body where there is excess energy, cools and calms it and it helps to calm the emotions, the mind and the eyes, especially through gazing at its layers and patterns. Placing a large piece by your bed can help to overcome restlessness, and wearing it in a necklace helps with the throat chakra.
